A personalized approach
Developmental Editing
Includes comments within the manuscript that point out specific areas needing improvement. Focuses on character development, storyline, plot, pacing, organization & descriptions.
Copy Editing
Looks at mechanics & correctness. Corrects grammar, punctuation & spelling. Analyzes sentence structure, consistency & capitalization and formatting. It can also include fact-checking if desired.
Line Editing
Focuses on style, tone & flow. Addresses word choice & sentence rhythm as well as clarity & emotional impact. Also looks at consistency in tone & voice. Eliminates redundancy & awkward phrasing. Improves pacing.
Proofreading
Checks for typos, punctuation errors & formatting consistency. Assumes the manuscript is already fully edited & only needs surface corrections.
Beta Reading
Provides reader-level feedback on engagement, clarity & emotional response. Comments on pacing, reaction to characters & overall experience.
Coaching
Partners with editing to help integrate suggested changes. Builds skills and confidence applicable within and beyond the current project. Can include the creation of a custom style guide, revision checklist, or other tools.
Editorial Assessment
Provides a summary assessment noting major areas needing attention. Often just a partial read-through of the first three to five chapters. Includes suggestions applicable to the entire manuscript.
