Editing Services
An Editorial Assessment includes a read-through of a manuscript resulting in a summary assessment noting major areas needing attention. Feedback notes may also be made within the manuscript itself. This assessment can also be a partial read-through of the first three to five chapters for the purpose of creating an editorial plan.
Content/Developmental Editing results in comments within the manuscript pointing out specific areas for improvement. Feedback focuses on character development, storyline, plot, pacing, organization, and descriptions. Issues with writing style may also be pointed out.
Line Editing involves editing line by line for style. Corrections and comments focus on all grammar and punctuation errors. Line editing also includes correcting minor issues with repetition and pacing. Plot holes or inconsistencies may also be noted.
Copy Editing focuses on editing for mechanics (i.e., basic grammar and punctuation). It includes comments regarding advanced grammar issues that require rewriting, but this is not the focus. Plot holes or inconsistencies may also be noted in comments and word repetition highlighted within the document.
Proofreading corrects basic grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. It does not include identifying high-level errors that should be corrected prior to the proofreading phase. Proofreading may also produce comments on larger issues, such as a plot hole or inconsistency, but this is not the focus or to be expected.
A Beta Read gives feedback on character development, storyline, plot, pacing, and description. Issues with writing style are also sometimes pointed out. A beta read does not correct for grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, etc.
